What is the Touring Group?
The teenage musicians of the Young Tradition Touring Group learn traditional music and dance from culture bearers over a 9-month period, before embarking on a performance and cultural tour to a region connected to the traditions they have explored.
The 22 members of this year’s group are learning Traditional New England music from Maine-based Artist Leaders Elsie Gawler and Ethan Tischler and Youth Artist leaders, Eleanor Freebern, Emmett Stowell, and Winslow Solomon. The Group will tour the New England states in mid-April, as well as performing around Vermont before and after their trip. Read more about the group and their trip!
Why Support Touring Group?
“The Touring Group has a positive impact on Vermont’s traditional music scene by inspiring and educating young musicians to greater heights, both with musical technique and etiquette as tradition-bearers…. it opened my eyes to an entire world that I didn’t know existed.”
“Being part of the Touring Group has had a very large positive impact on my musical skill. It has exposed me to many different cultures and musical styles. And it’s given me opportunities to share my music in ways that build community within the group, within communities, and across cultures.”
