Join fiddle instructor Sarah Hotchkiss for an in person Fiddleheads workshop on Saturday June 10 & 17 at 1 - 2pm at Vermont Violins 5 Green Tree Drive, South Burlington.
Sarah will be reviewing a set of tunes that will be performed at 12:30 pm on June 23rd with the band Poor Cousins as part of the BCA summer concert series, as well as teaching new tunes to participants. Beginners and early intermediate fiddlers are welcome.
The group will be learning new tunes one or two bars at a time and, unique to this session, will be reviewing the previously selected/learned tunes which will be performed on June 23 in "slow jam" style. Participants may get these two tunes in advance by contacting Sarah Hotchkiss directly at woodburystrings@gmail.com.
More advanced students are welcome if they are willing to learn the tunes at a slightly slower pace. If participants would like to attend the classes but are unable to attend the concert, that will be allowed.
More info on Sarah:
Sarah Hotchkiss has been teaching fiddle for 33 years and has been a significant force in the creation of programs for youths and adults in Northern Vermont. Starting in the late 90’s as former Chair of the Strings Department at Monteverdi Music School Sarah hosted and coordinated numerous fiddle camps and group classes as well as classical string groups and camps. In 2003 she founded and directed the Vermont Fiddle Orchestra, the first state fiddle orchestra in the country, and a youth fiddle club called “Sap Run Fiddlers” which she hosted out of her Woodbury Strings studio in Montpelier until 2013. She helped promote the launch of the Northeast Heritage Music Camp in 2005 and remained on the faculty there until 2019. Since relocating to Winooski in 2013, Sarah continues to teach fiddle and banjo and, among other endeavors, has created a feeder program for both Presto and Fiddleheads and has been on the faculty of the Young Tradition Vermont Trad Camp several times. Now, she is excited to have the opportunity to host this new fiddle class at Vermont Violins in an ongoing effort to bring beginning level fiddling opportunities to the Vermont community.
